Let’s catch up on the political cartoonists’ takes on recent social and political issues: the continuing Corona virus pandemic, the outcomes, and especially, the surprises, of the November 2022 mid-term elections, and the parties gearing up for the 2024 presidential election. There are ongoing heated discussions over such concepts as “wokeness” and critical race theory, leading to controversies over school curricula, PTA politics, even book burning. And finally, the impact of social media, abortion, and, always of critical concern to cartoonists, freedom of speech. We’ll look at a variety of opinions. As cartoonist Signe Wilkinson (Philadelphia Daily News) says, “Let the controversies be the beginning of conversations, not the end.”
