Hill, a veteran of the War of 1812, was appointed as its first keeper.  By 1869, both structures had deteriorated to the extent that Congress appropriated $14,000 to build a second lighthouse to replace the original tower.  This second stone lighthouse building, with its attached tower and Fresnel lens, was completed in 1871 and became the residence of Sodus Lighthouse Keepers for the next 80 years.  This same lighthouse is still preserved in excellent condition, and has been run as a Maritime Museum by the Sodus Bay Historical Society in accordance with an agreement and lease from the Town of Sodus since 1984.  Take a step back in time and tour the Lighthouse Museum.  Pack a lunch and feel free to explore the Chimney Bluffs on your own.

Never stopping in her quest for human rights – not for illness, age, opposition, or disappointments – Susan B. Anthony inspires us to be all we can be at every age of our lives. Join us at the Susan B. Anthony Museum & House for a tour focusing on Miss Anthony’s age at key milestones in her life, followed by a (weather permitting) stroll through this beautiful 19th-century neighborhood.  You will explore all three floors of Susan B Anthony’s National Historic Landmark home while learning her incredible story from one of our knowledgeable and passionate docents. Your guided experience will include walking outside and navigating two staircases. One of the many highlights of your tour will be to visit the front parlor, the room where Susan B. Anthony was arrested for voting in the 1872 presidential election.  Before or after your tour you are invited to explore their museum shop as well as an exhibition space which features several objects original to the Anthony family.  There are two flights of stairs involved.  Please RSVP by 6/14 at noon.

Just southeast of Rochester, New York, in the town of Victor, lies Ganondagan (ga·NON·da·gan), the site of a Native American community that was a flourishing, vibrant center for the Seneca people.  Americans everywhere owe a debt to the Seneca people; as one of the six nations comprising the Iroquois Confederacy, their democratic ideals served as an inspiration for the U.S. Constitution.  From politics and the environmental movement to food and medicine, the roots of contemporary society can be traced back to this historic site right in Rochester's back yard. Visit this site where thousands of Seneca lived 300 years ago, tour a full-size replica of a 17th-century Seneca Bark Longhouse, and learn about the destruction of Ganondagan, Town of Peace, in 1687.  There is a good amount of walking and some steps involved in this tour.  Please RSVP by 7/3 at noon.
