Understanding America’s Post Civil War Past from 1865 to 1900 and Interpreting the Confusion and Complexity of the America of 2023:
We will examine several things: The end of the Civil War and events after; The promises and failures of Reconstruction; Northern growth, politics, economy and demographics; the creation of the Jim Crow South; Relevant Supreme Court Decisions: Southern politics and Congress; Fallout from American 19th Century dysfunctional fixations on and race and how this reaches into our present.
