Description

Come and share your Rochester Movie Memories! This course focuses on the fabulous movie theaters in downtown Rochester that sadly no longer exist – the RKO Palace, Loew’s, Paramount, Capitol and Regent Theaters.  We’ll also cover the neighborhood cinemas such as the Lake, Monroe, Riviera, Waring, Lyell and Coronet among others. Rare photos of these long ago movie theaters along with a brief history will be presented. Janet Archibald will join me to relate her memories of working as a candy seller and later cashier at the Riviera Theater when it was showing films such as Lawrence of Arabia, My Fair Lady and Doctor Zhivago to the days when it was showing The Devil in Miss Jones. Do you have souvenir books from the days when first run movies had reserved seats and uniformed ushers or do you have the rare Pictorial History of the RKO Palace booklet? If so, bring them to this class for a fun show and tell and share your Rochester Movie Memories.
