Description

Abstract Expressionism has typically been associated with masculinity – the heroic attack on large-scale canvases, the existential struggle. While less well known than their male counterparts, a number of innovative women were associated with the movement. Some, like Lee Krasner, were initially viewed in the shadow of their more famous partners. Others, like Helen Frankenthaler, were recognized at the time. This four-session class will look at ways in which women negotiated the art world of the time and developed their own versions of abstract expressionism.  Please register for this class if you plan to join the class in person.
