Description
Battle of Hastings. When Roman military forces left Britannia, the local lords were left to defend the island. First, it was invaded by the Saxons, the Angles (where we get the word English), and the Jutes. Next, it was invaded by the Vikings. Then, when the Anglo-Saxons sent them packing, they were invaded by the Vikings again. Yet, despite all this, they built a nation-state where even the king was subject to the laws of the realm. Only in 1066, the Normans invaded… and no one would successfully invade England ever again. Please register for this class if you are interested in participating via Zoom only.
