Monk Rowe is the Director of the Fillius Jazz Archive at Hamilton College. Since 1995, he has personally conducted over 500 video interviews with jazz artists from across the country and abroad. He will share video excerpts from sessions with well known musicians, (Dave Brubeck, Marian McPartland, Jon Hendricks) as well as lesser known, but equally interesting sidemen from the bands of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Buddy Rich. Themes include life on the road, jazz and race, childhood inspiration, and improvisation. Monk will add to their jazz tales with live music examples and personal anecdotes from his career as a professional musician. Participants will see and hear the story of jazz from the artists who lived it.
