Description

Few events in history can match the dystopian events that occurred in Germany between 1933 and 1945. How could a nation renowned for its level of education, culture, scientific achievement, and sophistication fall under the spell of a megalomaniac. A perfect storm of circumstances came together which rode the currents of history to a European and world catastrophe. Adolf Hitler, a penniless and complete unknown in 1919 rose to power in a modern nation state and then initiate  the most destructive war in history. How and why could this happen? The essence of this three-session course will be to explore the answers to these questions. The first session will explore Hitler’s background and development and how he molded a political movement. Session two will show how power was obtained and an authoritative state was quickly achieved. Session three will demonstrate the inevitable result of maniacal power without limit.  Laurence Britt is a published writer on several aspects of fascism and has taught numerous classes on modern history at Oasis for the past fifteen years.
