Description
Born on July 6, 1901, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong is one of the enduring icons of American Popular Culture. A poor Southern boy who started running with the wrong crowd and discovered music in a reform school environment, Armstrong became the innovative jazz pioneer of the 1920s. As a popular bandleader in the 1930s and 1940s, he was the first African American jazz musician given a sole movie credit. He eventually became a touchstone of American culture and Goodwill Ambassador to music fans all over the world. We’ll celebrate 125 years of Louis Armstrong through music, TV, and movies.
