Description
The first distinctively American painting took as its subject landscape, beginning with the Hudson River. Thomas Cole and his successors created a vision of the majestic character and special qualities of American landscape. This four-session class will look at the rise and decline of this loosely defined “school”, only named in the 1870s when its works began to seem old-fashioned.
