Description
A part of the West Irondequoit Central School District since 1973, Helmer Nature Center, named for former superintendent Earle Helmer, is a 45-acre outdoor classroom. The facility has evolved into an integral component of the West Irondequoit curriculum. In addition, classes, families, and groups of all ages come to the Center’s woods and wetlands from throughout the region to learn about, enjoy, and celebrate our natural heritage. Come learn about the Maple Sugaring process which will include a stop at the Nature Center’s evaporator to see how sap is made into syrup and a hands-on hike to tap a maple tree. Feel free to stay after and hike the grounds. Dress warmly as most of the visit is outdoors. RSVP by 3/8 at noon.
