Description

The course will begin with the fall of the Alamo, the reasons it fell and why the Texans should have never been there.  Included in the discussion is the rise of the Independent Republic of Texas formed by Sam Houston and Stephan Austin in 1836, Texas statehood into the Union under President Polk in 1845 and the provoked preemptive attack of war with Mexico in 1846.  The war, due to Polk’s desire to expand the US to the Pacific by capturing the Southwest, California and the invasion of Mexico, was often called shameful and lasted two year.  This was the beginning of the military careers of Lee, Grant, Jefferson Davis, dozens of future Civil War generals and a presidency for Zachary Taylor.  Join us!
