Description

The presidential election process in the United States is unique and has resulted in some unusual and unexpected results during the history of our country. During an election year such as 2024 it is appropriate to look at the process, how it was established, what the founding fathers had in mind and how it has evolved through the years. We will consider some of the most controversial elections that have occurred throughout American history. This course of three sessions will be divided into three parts as follows: First the development of the presidential election process. Second, controversial presidential elections that have occurred in the past including 1824, 1876, 1912, 1948 and 2020. The third session will deal with the current status of the election process including recent events and the unfolding controversies of the 2024 election. If there is sufficient interest, the group can reconvene for a post-election free discussion.   Select this class if you will be joining via Zoom.
