How could a nation renowned for its level of education, culture, scientific achievement, and sophistication fall under the spell of a megalomaniac. A perfect storm of circumstances came together which rode the currents of history to a European and world catastrophe. Adolf Hitler, a penniless and complete unknown in 1919 rose to power in a modern nation state and then initiate the most destructive war in history. How and why could this happen?
