Description
Are museums the preservers of the status quo, or is it their mission to challenge visitors? Should museums preserve artifacts of world culture in encyclopedic collections or should artifacts be returned to the groups that produced them (and from which in many cases they were acquired violently)? How do museums handle controversial topics such as evolution, race, and climate change? How does funding affect the choices of what to present? This four-session class will examine both specific moments of controversy and broader issues. Please register for this class if you plan to join the class via Zoom.
