One of the most prolific songwriters of the Great American Songbook, Cole Porter was born into a wealthy Indiana family that had high hopes of him becoming a lawyer. He  defied their wishes to pursue a career in music. He began his career in earnest at Yale and grew to become the most sophisticated lyricists in popular music history.
